Introducing statement pieces to your wardrobe is a way of making your outfit noticeable. A statement piece is the first thing people notice about your outfit. Don’t forget first impressions are important!
So how do you find statement pieces that are timeless, and can maintain your sustainable wardrobe? That’s where we come in.
Here are a few of our suggestions on types of statement pieces to go for and the colours we advise for you to choose.
It’s always a good start to first assess your base pieces in your wardrobe, and then work out what colour palette you have to work with. This is important as when finding a sustainable statement piece, you want it to go with as much of your wardrobe as possible.
A good statement piece is a blazer. A blazer can really uplift an outfit and make something go from casual to smart casual. It’s a good option for work as well so you can get multiple uses out of it. Finding a good statement piece blazer means getting the right fit and colour.
You should aim to have a regular length blazer over a cropped one, as these are timeless and will go well with trousers, skirts and dresses. For the colour, if you own mainly whites, neutrals, blacks in your wardrobe then it’s good to have a contrasting colour that complements them all. Browns or even a brighter colour like green or red when you are pairing with white and black would look great. This way you are making sure you can get as much use out of your statement piece as possible. If your wardrobe is very colourful it’s best to go for a black or a white blazer to contrast the colour.
Another good statement piece is trousers. These can really make you stand out of a crowd. When finding timeless statement trousers, we recommend going for a straight leg fit, as this is the most timeless and elegant. Again, like the blazer, it is a good option to also wear for work, giving you multiple wears from them.
Introducing a pop of colour in your trousers is the best way to make it a statement piece, and for you to stand out from the crowd. For trousers we recommend going for a brighter colour so it stands out from the rest of your outfit. For example, you could pair together a white top and mustard trousers. We advise to stay away from pastel or neutrals in your trousers if your aim is to make it your statement piece. You need a bold colour, but keep in mind the base pieces you have when choosing the colour.
Another statement piece we would recommend is a jumpsuit. This is the perfect option for you to really stand out. Wearing it on its own is a statement, or you can even pair it with a jacket that contrasts your jumpsuit colour to stand out even more. For the style of jumpsuit, we would recommend going for straight leg fit, and for the neckline we would suggest avoiding trending necklines with cut outs. It is best to keep it timeless with spaghetti straps, off the shoulder, strapless, high neck, etc.
For the colour, we would again recommend going for a bold colour. For example if you went for a burnt orange one, you could style it across all seasons by pairing it with a contrasting colour jacket, tie up skirt, heels, trainers or even sandals. Making sure you pick a colour for the jumpsuit that is good all year round is key. The top 3 we would recommend is burnt orange, mustard yellow and sage green. These are three colours that can be worn across day and night as well.
